How to prepare for your first job after grad school

I remember the process of searching for a job after graduate school being very stressful. There are so many requirements to consider, and quite a bit of time where you are just waiting. As a newly graduated counselor, you’re waiting on the state to approve your limited license (lately that wait time has been made a tad longer due to COVID restrictions), you’re (hopefully) interviewing supervisors and agencies and waiting for call backs and interviews. Once you’ve submitted your application packet for limited licensure, there is quite a bit of stopping and starting happening as you wait for a response from LARA. Here are a few key steps to make sure you’re making the most of this wait time:

Elizabeth Carr, LPC, ACS

Elizabeth is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Approved Clinical Supervisor practicing in Michigan and also licensed in Texas. Therapeutic experience includes working with adults and children who experience anxiety, depression and emotion dysregulation.
